Hi,

What a great question! 

There are generally 7 colours in a rainbow.  Their range consists of:

 

Red, orange, yellow, green blue, indigo and violet.  Each colour blends into the next although some people think that since indigo and blue are so close in the "colour wheel" some consider there to be only 6 colours.

 

Since all these colours blend from one to the other in the rainbow, the number of actual colours is infinite.
