Thank you for your question.

The Oxford Dictionary defines copyright as "the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same."

Creative Commons is a type of copyright license that creators can use to allow other people to share their work.

The Creative Commons FAQ page has many more details: https://creativecommons.org/faq/#what-is-creative-commons-and-what-do-you-do

Copyright Matters! from the Council of Ministers of Education also has great information for teachers about how to respect copyright: http://cmec.ca/Publications/Lists/Publications/Attachments/291/Copyright_Matters.pdf
