Thank you for your question.

There are many websites that advertise copyright-free or royalty-free pictures and images. The important thing to remember is that everything that someone creates has some sort of copyright. Royalty-free images are images you can reproduce without paying the creator - but that does not mean that you don't have to give credit (attribution) to the creator of the image.

Many royalty-free image sites such as istockphoto.com are subscription based (meaning you pay to access the images).

The website pixabay offers free images, many with licenses that allow the image to be used without attribution. However, be careful to always double check how you can use an image.

Educators can often use copyrighted material (including images) in their classrooms under Fair Dealing rules. To learn more about Fair Dealing, please read the publication Copyright Matters!
